11-02-2012, 03:15 PM #355 Well as much as it sucks that Herbst won't let Bell come visit because of SAT's we need to remember how important academics are to UConn right now. We can't be taking chances on guys who won't do well in their time here academically. I was excited and almost expected us to land Bell because he loves UConn so much, and I won't give up all hope yet, but until he takes those SAT's (which he should have done a few weeks ago,) its the right move to show that we are committed to student athletes and not just athletes.
-
11-02-2012, 06:29 PM #356 All he's doing is taking an oficial visit. Haven't we already offered him. Herbst should let him visit, but make attendance should he comit, god forbid, on achieving a passing score on the SAT, which he would need anyway to qualify for admission. This is wrong to make staff back out on its committment to bring Bell here for an official. I would prefer giving up the official to making Ollie and staff look foolish. These recruits all talk and this may effect Uconn's perception to other recruits. This was either not well thought through or just simply foolish.

11-02-2012, 10:34 PM #357 Seriously what happened with bell and uconn?? I have heard 10 different storys
-
11-03-2012, 01:03 AM #358 Yeah that sucks for him and us,but why hasn't he taken the tests yet?figured he'd pass with good grades.

I am sure he will pass the SAT or at least get a score to be eligible with his grades being good. Only has like 1 C.
I just hope he waits it out and love that we still reaching out.
Vonleh is and will be tough. I think UNC is team to beat for him they NEED him as much as we do!

UConn is involved with 2013 6 11 C Amida Brimah from Archbishop Coleman Carroll in Florida. Brimah currently lists offers from South Carolina, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Miami, and Alabama among several others.

Yea... well I do know that we were the last to see Austin or most recent when Coach went to see him Sunday night before this trip to Germany.
We sit ok with him but like I said no way to gauge as he and hsi coach are real quiet maybe that is a good thing for us!

Bell will be going to Oregon or maybe Auburn especially if he announces anytime before next April.... which he will.
-
11-08-2012, 08:17 PM #374 His AAU team said he's announcing this Monday
-
11-09-2012, 04:10 AM #375 Bell took his SAT last Saturday when he was supposed to be on his visit... The fact that he's making his decision before he even knows those results means we can essentially cross him off the list.

This tweet from Dave Telep should tell all of you all you need to know on what we have to deal with it......
"Kids like Kevin Ollie. They would like him more if UConn would remove the handcuffs and allow him to work on a level playing field."
-
11-09-2012, 10:27 PM #377 In the end contract now or contract later .... we're going to be just fine!!!!!!!!! If Ollie recruits half as good as he coaches, we're going to need a bigger trophy case. We got outrebounded, but our guys had so much hearth playing against Michigan State. We may miss out on a couple recruits while Ward takes his time to make an important decision, but in the end, we got our next coach. And the state of Husky Nation is outstanding. He'll get the recruits next year and the year after that. Hell, I want to play for Coach Ollie ... if only I was 6" taller.

No doubt but I am not talking about contract nor is Telep.... that will happen and sooon!!
The AD and President need to give him leeway like under Caloun on who we can go after and continue to the let the kids play loose....ie release the hounds! Either way we will get studs starting in 2014 and will continue to win big!
-
11-10-2012, 02:39 AM #379 Absolutely! I think that KO is going to generate some excitement around the program that we haven't seen in a while and bring in some ridiculous recruting classes startign in '14. In fact, if we get anybody else in 2013, I'll consider it a blessing and if KO does get the contract next month, just maybe we'll have a shot at Vonleh in the spring - wouldn't that be something. If Uconn does well in the Virgin Islands, Manuel is not going to have a choice about giving him a long-term contract for fear of getting lynched.

Yea he will get that long term deal no later than end of year/beginning of BE play IMO!
We can still finish this class with Austin and like you said maybe Vonleh but he will be tough to snatch away from UNC and couple others!
But I have always said with Calhoun or whoever now Ollie 2014 was the year we would get soem studs across the board like the Thabeet class and before that with Charlie... Rudy etc...

Per Rivals, who spoke to his AAU coach, Brandon Austin is down to 3. He will decide within the next few days and here's how his coach describe Brandon's top 3:
Texas- "It's Texas. They have tradition. He likes coach Barnes and there's another kid from the area down there in Jalen Bond. He would have a chance to play a lot down there. He really likes that situation."
UConn- "The tradition is there no doubt. They have had lots of pros and coach Ollie has been cool with him. I really think it's more the tradition, he's like "Oh, it's UConn.". I think the kid just likes them because it's familiar and it's the Big East."
Providence- "Coach Cooley is doing his thing and he's a good dude. We've known coach Simon forever, he recruited one of my players at Toledo like eight years ago. I think the style of play and the point guard position is a fit. Even if they have Ricardo Ledo and Kris Dunn there they can play those guys one, two, three. It could end up a better situation if he's playing with those two guys."

Sounds like we're 3rd if this is a good indicator.

Well just was told by UConnChev that Vonleh picked Indiana..... so cross him off the list!
This one is actually a bit of a shocker...I thought with there recent NCAA troubles and having guys play his position... they would be 3rd or 4th but he still chose them....
