KEMBA WALKERS WIN THE 2011 LUTE OLSON AWARD
HOUSTON, TX -- CollegeInsider.com is pleased to announce that Connecticut junior guard Kemba Walker has been named the recipient of the 2011 Lute Olson Award, which is presented annually to the nationís top Division I player who has played at least two seasons with his respective team.
Walker is one of only two players in the nation to average 20 points, five rebounds and four assists this season. He has led UConn to a Big East Tournament title in addition to a spot in the Final Four. Walker has been a statistical monster, averaging 23.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.9 steals per game.
Many greats have played for UConn over the last quarter century, but none was as prolific a scorer as Walker. With 33 points against Cincinnati in the NCAA Third Round, he moved into first on the school's single-season scoring list with 875 points, passing Huskie great Donyell Marshall ('94).
The award is named in honor of coaching great Lute Olson, who won 780 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent at the University of Arizona. During that stretch he led the Wildcats to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997.
