Vs. New Mexico
UConn took Monday morning to recuperate from what was a very physical demanding game played Sunday night against their in-state foe, Quinnipiac. However, tonight’s affair won’t be any less stimulating for the Huskies as they square off against New Mexico in the championship of the Paradise Jam Tournament.
New Mexico comes into the matchup with a 3-0 record with wins over Davidson, Illinois-Chicago, and most recently George Mason. The Lobos received heroics from junior guards Kendall Williams and Tony Snell. Williams hit a Hail Mary three from about 35 feet, which triggered an errant in-bounds pass. Then, Snell drained another three on the ensuing possession with 1.8 seconds remaining.
Williams and Snell have been shining stars so far this season averaging 18 and 19.6 points respectively. Similar to UConn, New Mexico is loaded with backcourt talent and start three pure guards, one wing and an undersized big at 6’9”.
Hugh Greenwood, Demetrius Walker and Cameron Bairstow are other three starters for New Mexico. The outcome of this game will be determined by which team can collectively rebound more efficiently on both ends of the floor.
UConn is looking to be the first team to win this tournament for the second time, and both teams are hoping to continue their undefeated start.
